Oil Cleansing: Like Dissolves Like

,

Do you wash your face with oil?

Yes, you heard me right, oil!

Did you know that you can remove your makeup with an oil based cleanser?!

Of course you can. It’s Chemistry 101: oil dissolves oil, oils extracted from natural botanicals can help you effectively remove makeup and daily impurities.

The cosmetics industry has been telling us for decades that oils are our skin´s worst enemy. Especially if you have oily skin. Just walk down the aisle in any pharmacy or supermarket and you will see an endless offering of soaps, gels, foams, and astringents that remove dirt, grit, and excess oils, but also the protective, fine layer of oil we need to keep skin supple and with a healthy glow. We´ve been treating our face as if it were a greasy pan in need of harsh detergents! The result: irritated, over-dry, dull, prematurely-aged skin. Maybe even acne. Because our sebaceous glands are being forced to work extra hard to defend our skin from abrasive ingredients, they produce more and more oil, and we end up washing ever more often with ever harsher products in a never-ending cycle.

Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against gel cleansers. I even  formulated one at Essentique: “UpLift.” It’s made of the most gentle and natural plant based soap agent, AHA, Argan oil and Neroli hydrosol. But you can’t ignore the benefit of oil cleansing. That is why I created “Lumin8,” a beautiful cleansing oil formulated specifically for cleaning and nourishing our skin.

Lumin8 is a blend of the finest oils harvested from all over the world: rosehip makes skin glow; argan is a deep cleanser rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, E and Omegas 6 &9; tamanu regenerates, soothes and has anti-acne, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties; Amazonian lily moisturizes and detoxifies; avocado increases collagen and improves elasticity; jojoba is anti-inflammatory and fights acne; apricot helps heal scars and promotes skin cell growth; camellia is antioxidant and anti-microbial with high Omega 9 content, and scented with lily of the valley essential oil absolute. Drench your skin as you remove all the impurities of the day.

It´s easy:

Step 1: Apply oil on face and neck. Lightly massage onto skin using circular movements.

Step 2: Gently wipe with a warm, wet washcloth or with slightly wet cotton balls.

Step 3: Moisturize. Or don’t, as Lumin8 is moisturizing by itself.

Step 4: Enjoy soft, radiant, clean skin!

See the difference? We´d love to hear from you, so please tell us how cleansing with oil has changed your complexion!

  1. When I first tried Lumin8, I was very hesitant. I have combination oily and acne-prone skin, and I was used to fighting it with foaming cleansers, harsh toners, and gel moisturizers. Oil scared me. But, Mandana recommended it, so I tried it, and I’m so glad I did. A couple of pumps rubbed into my skin managed to dissolve all of my makeup, leaving me with a panda face at first and a bare one after a washcloth. My skin felt clean, but it didn’t feel stripped or dry like other cleansers usually leave it. Instead, it left my skin balanced and hydrated, to the point where I didn’t even need to apply a moisturizer afterwards. Throughout the day, I kept touching my face and marveling at how soft my skin was and how good it smelled. I’m in love with this product!
