Our Passion for Passion

The passion flower plant is native to South America and Africa (but also found in Australia and Hawaii). Also called maracuja, passion fruit is sweet and tart, with a soft, juicy interior filled with seeds. Those seeds are pressed to make oils and butters, which maintain a slightly fruity, nutty scent. Rich in vitamins and fatty acids, passionfruit seed oil and maracuja butter work wonders for both skin and hair.

Passionfruit seed oil is a pale yellow color with a slightly fruity, nutty scent. Its light, non-greasy texture absorbs quickly, and is perfect for rejuvenating dry or damaged hair. Hydrolyzed proteins in passionfruit seed oil leave the hair feeling hydrated and healthy. It encourages healthy hair growth and returns vitality to your hair. When applied directly to the hair as a hot oil treatment, passionfruit seed oil can help reduce combing force, making your hair less prone to damage. Look for this oil in Essentique’s Blue Bliss, RevitAçai .

Maracuja Butter is a rich source of calcium, iron, phosphorus and linoleic acid (75%) resulting in exceptionally soothing, moisturizing and nourishing effects. It is easily absorbed by the skin and doesn’t leave behind a greasy residue, and it is a great moisturizer for all skin types. It has antibacterial properties and helps to reduce sebum secretion, making it good for use on acne-prone skin. At the same time, antioxidants keep skin looking firm and youthful, while fatty acids smooth and plump and reduce the appearance of fine lines, benefiting those with aging or mature skin. Anti-inflammatory and anti-itch properties also work well for irritated or sensitive skin. Its strong nourishing ingredients help heal skin damaged by burns, cuts, scars, or irritated skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. Essentique’s Supple and Elevate both contain maracuja butter for use on the skin.
