Perhaps you’re already familiar with hydrosols, or maybe you’re not. Regardless, we are here to provide some insight as to how to incorporate these lovely products into your everyday life. Hydrosols, also referred to as hydrolats, are the aqueous product of distillation and they carry the water-soluble components of the plant as well as microscopic droplets of essential oils in suspension. Simply put, they are distilled plant materials that produce what you could call “flower waters”. They possess softer and more subtle aromas than essential oils but offer incredible skincare benefits and uplifting properties. They can be used for many purposes including body care, medicinal care, and household care.

Hydrosols can be used in many ways to improve skin quality. Geranium, Rose, Neroli, Lavender, and Cucumber hydrosols make great facial toners. Toners should be used following a cleanser and prior to moisturization, and help to remove excess dirt, dead skin, oils, and makeup, as well as correcting the skin’s pH balance. Additionally, all of our hydrosols can be used as facial and body sprays. Lightly mist your face and body to experience a cooling and refreshing feeling.

Along with usage on the skin, hydrosols make wonderful hair fragrances. They are gentle and will leave the hair hydrated with a light scent. If you are in need of foot spray to help combat foot odor, simply mist the tops and bottoms of the feet to help control smell. This will also leave your feet feeling quite refreshed! If you are in need of some mental relief, use hydrosols that are reported to help reduce stress and anxiety, such as Lavender, Neroli, and Rose. When used in meditation or prayer, scents like Holy Basil (Tulsi) can help enhance the experience and induce a sense of calmness.

Perhaps you’d like to use hydrosols for more medicinal purposes. For use as an anti-itch treatment for dry skin, dandruff, and insect bites, use Peppermint hydrosol! Geranium hydrosol is known to be styptic, meaning it can help stop the bleeding of minor cuts and wounds. Geranium and Lavender hydrosols can be used to help kill germs and promote the healing of minor wounds, cuts, and abrasions. Some hydrosols with levels of anti-inflammatory action include Geranium, Holy Basil (Tulsi), Lavender, Peppermint, Rose, and Rosemary. Also, hydrosols can be either warmed or chilled and used in place of water for compresses, providing gentle aromatic healing.

Hydrosols are wonderful to have around the home and they can serve many different household purposes. Use hydrosols to freshen a room and benefit from their therapeutic properties! Simply spray the hydrosol within your space, making sure to avoid furniture, pets, and open beverages or foods. Spray hydrosols on towels, sheets, and other linens to freshen, and fragrance them. Or perhaps mist the interior of your car, avoiding polished, painted, and fragile surfaces. You could lightly spray clothes, avoiding sensitive and delicate fabrics, to leave a gentle aroma and eliminate unpleasant odors.

As you can see, hydrosols can be used in an endless number of ways, get to know them and incorporate them in your daily routine!
